Parish Nursing
Parish Nursing is nothing new to the church...
It may be a new concept in many churches, but our church has recently
focused on improving our health through awareness. As Bethel Church
moves toward a gift-based ministry we are discovering that we have been
practicing the gift of healing in various forms -- from a word of
encouragement to medical recommendations. Many who serve on this team
are professional nurses, but others are included to give a balanced
concern for body, mind, and spirit.
The team meets to offer seminars, screenings, and planning for church members and to the nearby community concerning health issues. Our Team Leader, Mrs. Hazel Thomas is a registered nurse, graduating from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in 1979 with an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Nursing (AAS in Nursing). She then completed a Bachelor's Degree in Science (BS) at MCV in 1998. She is also a Certified Childbirth Educator, and Chair of Disaster Health Services at the Greater Richmond Chapter of the American Red Cross. Hazel has recently been certified and educated in Parish Nurse Ministry by the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. She is usually available and on site prior to our Sunday Services.
